Central Bank of Lesotho
Ms. Gail Makenete is the Second Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Lesotho, a position she has held since January 2012. Her areas of responsibility in the Bank are in Financial Markets, Operations and Payment Systems, Human Resources and Security.
Prior to her appointment as 2nd Deputy Governor, Ms. Makenete was Director of Financial Markets within the Central Bank of Lesotho.
She holds a B.Comm (Accounting) degree from the National University of Lesotho, and a Chartered Accountancy (CA) qualification from the Lesotho Institute of Accountants. She completed the Senior Management Development Programme – Africa under USB Executive Development in 2015. She is also a Fellow (Reserves Management) of the Macroeconomic and Financial Management Institute of Eastern and Southern Africa (MEFMI).
She is widely travelled and has participated in many high level meetings of the African Association of Central Banks, World Bank Treasury and in Currency Management. She currently serves as a member of the Gender and Women’s Financial Inclusion Committee (GWFIC) of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI).
She is a person of high standards of work ethic, who acquired great managerial skills over the past twenty seven years working at the Central Bank of Lesotho.
She is a member of various professional and services organizations, such as the Lesotho Institute of Accountants, Maloti Rotary Club, Associate Fellow of MEFMI and the UBLS Association and has been actively involved in sport administration in Lesotho.
